Flat (Float) Glass

Flat glass or sheet glass is a type of glass, initially produced in plain form, commonly used for windows, glass doors, shelves and transparent walls. A. L. Smith Glass Company currently carries clear, Low E (AGC Comfort Select 73), gray, bronze, Solex, Starphire, acid etch and rain glass types in thicknesses ranging from 2.5 mm (3/32“) to 12 mm (1/2”). Does your project require a custom shape? Not a problem, we have skilled fabrication experts that will cut shapes as defined by your design. Call one of our expert customer service personnel and we will be happy to assist you with your project.

Insulated Glass

Insulating glass (IG), more commonly known as double glazing (or double-pane, and increasingly triple pane), consists of two or three glass window panes separated by a spacer which is designed to reduce thermal loss. Insulating glass units (IGUs) are manufactured with glass in a range of thickness from 2.5 to 10 mm (1/16″ to 3/8″ or more in special applications). Do you need grids for your units? We have a fully automated grid system that will prepare grids to your specifications. Contact us to discuss your insulated glass needs.

Tempered Glass

Tempered glass is a type of safety glass processed by a controlled thermal treatment to increase its strength compared with normal glass. Tempering puts the outer surfaces into compression and the interior into tension. Such stresses cause the glass, when broken, to crumble into small granular chunks instead of splintering into jagged shards as plate glass (a.k.a. annealed glass) does. Our 60” X 120” HHH double bay full convection tempering oven can handle glass thickness from 1/8” to 1/2”.

A. L. Smith Glass Company is certified by the Safety Glazing Certification Council (SGCC). This certification is your assurance that A. L. Smith Glass Company is providing the highest quality of tempered glass.

Polished Edge Glass

Polished edges are produced by buffing the edge of the glass with a fine abrasive material. The result is a beautiful translucent finish. Flat polished edges are excellent options for the thicker glass used in shelves and frameless shower enclosures. Our Schiatti polishing equipment ensures our customers that they are receiving the highest quality of finishing available in this industry. Contact us to discuss your polished edge glass needs.

Shower Doors

We fabricate custom glass shower doors and associated side glass to fit your design requirements. As an option, we currently stock Shower Guard glass or can provide an Enduro Shield coating to provide protection against staining and etching. To complete your custom shower door installation, we will be glad to assist you with finding creative hardware that will amaze you. Give us a call and talk to one of our shower door experts and they will assist you with your project.
